A reflux still is designed to maximize alcohol purity by recycling vapor through a column, allowing for multiple distillations in a single run. The copper boiler serves as the base where the fermented wash is heated, producing vapor that rises into the reflux column.
Unlike a pot still (which is better for flavorful spirits like whiskey), a reflux still is ideal for producing neutral spirits (like vodka) with higher alcohol content (up to 95% ABV).
